Annmarie Durbin, Executive Coach

Annemarie is part of the Advanced Boardroom Excellence corporate governance team. She is an experienced Non Executive Director (NED) with global financial services, business, company secretary and legal experience.

Currently Annemarie is an Independent NED at WH Smith (serving its Audit & Risk, Remuneration and Nomination Committees), Santander UK PLC (serving its Risk, Remuneration and Audit Committees) and Ladbrokes Coral PLC (and will serve its Audit & Risk, Nomination and Remuneration and Social Responsibility Committees from 1 March 2017). She is also chair of the Listing Authority Advisory Panel which is the body that advises the Financial Conduct Authority on listing & governance issues.

During Annemarie’s 30 year corporate career, she undertook a broad range of international banking roles at Standard Chartered PLC (a FTSE 100 international bank) and, before that, at ANZ Banking Group. This included being CEO and Executive Director of Standard Chartered’s publicly listed entity in Thailand as well as holding country manager positions across Asia, regional business roles in Asia & Africa, and global support function roles. Annemarie was also the executive sponsor of the company’s Diversity and Inclusion programme and Living with HIV education initiative. Annemarie excelled at business integration and transformation in a complex, multinational and multicultural context.

Annemarie was Group Company Secretary for 8 years at Standard Chartered and as a result is recognised as having exemplary corporate governance credentials.  Annemarie was a member of Standard Chartered's Group Executive Committee, the body that was responsible for shaping the Group's overall strategy and execution priorities. As a result of her experience, she has a clear understanding of the differing roles that executive & non executive directors perform within the construct of an unitary board.

In addition to her business acumen, Annemarie has strong governance regulatory, legal, compliance, risk, human resources & internal audit credentials.

Annemarie started her career as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand and then qualified as a solicitor in the UK. In addition to her legal and commerce qualifications, Annemarie has a Masters and is accredited as an Executive Coach by Ashridge Business School. Annemarie is also an Accredited Mediator with Regents University, London and a board governance and effectiveness consultant.
